Pool is categorized as a cue or billiard sports that comprises of sinking billiard balls inside the holes of a pool table by using a cue stick. It can be an exciting sport which can be played by lots of persons at a time. Over the years Pool tournaments have become ever so frequent and are held annually in various locations around the country where persons contend with each other for the title as best pool player in their region. There are many diverse means to play the game however, we will only be focusing on a basic eight ball game.

How To Play Pool

Required Tools:

Cue stick

Mechanical bridge

Chalk

Rack

Required Materials:

Pool table

Billiard balls

Billiard cues

Instructions are as follows:

1. A basic game of pool commences by arranging all the billiard balls onto the pool table with the rack, with the exception of the cue ball.

2. Each person then selects the type of pool stick they want to play with and then smooth off the tip with the chalk so that the whole tip is covered with chalk. Then you can blow off the tip to get rid of the excess chalk residue. Some persons rather have their own personal cue stick for participating in pool.

3. After determining who will go first, place the cue ball behind the designated line on the pool table. Employ one hand on the pool table to guide the cue ball where it ought to go and the next to apply the force needed to hit it firmly enough so that it makes contact with the rack of balls. If billiard balls are hit hard enough, then they should spread all over the pool table. If you are right handed most likely the guiding hand will be the left and the hitting hand the right and for left handed persons vice versa. One simple method is to form the directing hand is to make a small semi circle using the thumb on top of the index finger so that the pool stick can be put on top of it.

4. After all the balls are spread out across the board and none of the colored balls or the Number 9 ball drops the other person or team will be allowed to attempt and sink either the whole or strip balls. Whoever gets any one of them balls into the pocket first excluding for the cue ball will have to try to sink that kind of ball throughout the rest of the game. The player who drops all of their colored balls first will then try to drop the Number 9 ball, but the person who sinks the Number 9 ball prior to that will automatically lose the match.

5. While playing pool, each player can take shots from almost every angle to drop a ball into the hole. Once they use the right technique so that the cue ball hits the colored ball dead on, then the shot should be successful, If not it will either fail to hit the ball or it might not hit it good enough for the ball to submerge. Just arrange the shot correctly and take the shot.

6. Persons can also hit the cue ball from an angle so it can bounce on either side the pool table and strike another colored ball. You can also use the cue ball to strike another ball which then rebounds off the cushion and drop another ball. Use the pool stick and align the shot with the side on the pool table to get the best position to make a good shot.

7. In a pool match another effective method for dropping a ball is to hit the cue ball towards a colored ball so that it doesn’t hit dead center but instead intentionally off centre so it goes towards a hole. Depending on where you want the colored ball to go will determine how far off centre you have to strike the ball. However, don’t slice the ball too much so that you may miss the hole completely.

8. Another shot is known as Canon which is a useful shot if the ball you need to hit is obstructed by one or more billiard balls. First observe the balls in question, and estimate how you would like to strike the first ball in order for it to sock the other ball to the right position, or probably even strike the third. Once you have thought about this then strike it firmly, but not too hard to make the balls fly from around the pool table.

Tips and Warnings

*Before hitting the cue ball, always check that the top of the pool stick is properly screwed in to the end part, at times the tip can work itself loose and even fall off and this may affect the users performance.

*Participating in pool requires the know how and skill, so once you continuously work on your performance level then your tactics and game play will steadily increase.

* When taking part in a pool game, persons must also employ the proper stance, the left foot must be placed forward and the right foot back approximately two feet and you must not be too close to the table.
