Garbage disposal clogs are more or less a way of life: at some point, majority of households shall experience their garbage disposal refusing to drain or perhaps jamming. Fortunately, most of the causes for these problems are easily remediable. Here we discuss what you should do when your garbage disposal clogs.
The first thing to do, always, is to disconnect the garbage disposal from the power source. This is a safety precaution that should be done each time you open, repair, or inspect the parts of your disposal that have the potential to injure you. It is all well and good to be confident that you are not a clumsy person, but it is far better still to be certain and unplug the device. It costs you nothing to do, whereas a single small accident could cost you a finger.
Now it is time to check the most likely culprit here. Most often, when a garbage disposal clogs or seems to be draining at a trickle, the issue may be found in the drain itself. The first thing to try is to use a regular drain cleaner to loosen and dislodge the clog. If that still does not work, it is time to put on your rubber gloves (if you have issues with getting your hands dirty) and take on the drain tap. First, you have to detach the drain tap from the disposals discharge pipe or outlet, to see if it has any clogs in it. Most clogs shall be found here and may be cleaned away easily, but if you see nothing, the problem may be in the pipe itself (or the part of the pipe that goes into the wall). To fix that, you shall have to use a drain or pipe snake into it and use that to dislodge the clog.
Sometimes, a disposal may jam too when tough objects fall in it. When this happens, you should try to locate the obstruction with your eyes (remember to use a flashlight, of course), and then use some handy pincers or tongs to extract the object. If this does not work, there is the recourse of the Allen wrench. Almost all disposals have a hole into which this wrench shall fit, and the hole is found at the bottom of the device. Insert the wrench here and use it to turn the disposal one way and another until the clog comes free.

Good, quality water heaters last for a decade or more without any real issues, but that is only if they are well-maintained. Below are 7 smart maintenance tips for prolonging the life of your water heater as well as for making it more efficient.
1. You should give your water heaters storage tank an insulating jacket. This can bring down the standby heat loss associated with such water heaters and can result in almost 10% savings for your energy costs. Fibreglass insulation is often used for this and may simply be taped to the tank.
2. Flush the tank at least once a year. This ensures that any residue or sediment deposits in the tank are properly disposed of before enough of the silt accumulates to become a problem. To flush your heaters storage tank, all you need to do is turn off the power, disconnect the cold water supply, then use a hosepipe to pump water into the tank through the drain cock, using the temperature/pressure relief valve as your draining outlet. Check the outflow for muddiness or discolouration and do not stop the flushing until the water coming out is perfectly clear.
3. If you are using a gas water heater that needs a pilot light, learn how to relight it after it has been turned off. The instructions for this are usually included in the product literature. Knowing how to relight it means you can put it out when you have to go on a vacation or long holiday.
4. If you are leaving your house for a long time and no one shall be using the water, turn off the thermostat on your heater.
5. Again for gas water heaters, constantly check that the vent is working properly. Also known as the flue, this part of the installation is responsible for proper air ventilation. To check if it is working as it should, you may light a match or candle next to the device or near the vent. If the vent is working as it should, the smoke should travel up the vent.
6. Check your water heater for rust at least once each year. You can do this using the same procedure outlined in tip number 2, checking the outflow from the tank for a rusty colour or rust particles.
7. Check your anode rod every now and then. Also called a sacrificial rod, this eventually wears out and needs to be replaced due to the corrosion that eats away at it. You may inspect this by simply draining out some water from the tank until you can unscrew the sacrificial rod from its position and take it out.

Before anything else, it must be noted that fixing your electric water heater is not exactly a job you can take to extremes: you need a trained technician to really tinker around with your heater if the problem is complicated, because your heater, like any other electric device, is still a potentially dangerous gadget.
The more complex the problem becomes, the less advisable (and likely to be successful) it is that you try to fix it on your own. There are, however, a few simple chores you can do for yourself. For example, you can repair your water heater in most cases where the water coming out of it has a dubious shade or smell.
The usual causes of both problems revolve around the anode rod, but you may take them separately as well: when water is colored, for example, it is usually because the deposits of various substances in the water have accrued inside the storage tank. Besides that, they have probably collected on the anode rod itself. The anode rod is simply screwed off (or on) the tank and is in fact supposed to be replaced regularly by water heater owners who unfortunately tend to forget about it. The color may be a sign that your anode rod needs replacement.
If your heater is producing water with an odor, it might also be due to an old anode rod. You should check how corroded your anode rod is and see if it needs replacement. An even better alternative, perhaps, is to replace your anode rod, most likely one that performs a sacrificial reaction in the water heating process with one of the newer rod types, which use a current instead to do their job and thus no longer take on a strictly sacrificial role: these are far less likely to produce odors.

Solar water heaters are heaters which run on solar power. These heaters can provide a cost effective way of getting hot water. They can be used in almost all types of climates and their power source is the sun which is free.
Solar water heater consist basically two parts solar collectors and storage tanks. The two types of solar water heaters are active and passive. Active solar water heaters have circulating pumps as well as controls. Passive solar water heaters dont have circulating pumps and controls.
The storage tanks of the solar water heater are well insulated. They have an additional inlet and outlet that are connected with the solar collector. In the case of two tank systems the solar heater first pre-heats the water and then sends it to the conventional water heater part. For one tank systems you have the back-up heater and the solar storage tank is combined as one.
Residential solar collectors are classified into three types.
- Flat plate collector
- Evacuated-tube solar collector
- Integral collector-storage system
Flat plate collectors are further divided into two types glazed and unglazed.
Glazed flat plate collectors are waterproof boxes which contain dark absorber plates. These plates are covered either by glass or plastic covers. The boxes are insulated. Unglazed plate collectors have dark absorbing plates made of either metal or polymer. They are not covered or enclosed.
Evacuated-tube solar collectors have sets of parallel transparent glass tubes. The tubes have a glass outer tube as well as metal absorber tube attached to the fin.
Integral collector-storage systems have either black tanks or tubes which are present in a glazed box. The glazed box is insulated.
Under active solar water heaters there are two types
- Indirect circulation system
- Direct circulation system
Under passive solar water heaters there are two types
- Thermosyphon systems
- Integral collector-storage passive systems

A corporate training institute can help you learn how to become effective trainer in the corporate setting. Most corporate training institutes these days dont even warrant a classroom style setting. There are training programs these days that can be taken online but still has that interactive learning effect. Some of the topics you can learn may include building trust, communication and managing change. However, corporate trainers also mention that to do this, you need to find a good, credible and certified training institution.
So how do you choose a corporate training institute?
The first step to take when looking for a corporate training institute is to search online for highly recommended institutions. If you are not considering online training then you check for schools in your locality. You can check the local area Yellow Pages or you can just narrow your Google search in your specific area.
If, on the other hand, you have your eye on online Training and Development courses, you can check the Net for good recommendations. One tip is to join forums and to check on message boards for good suggestions. You can also ask friends and people in your neighborhood.
After acquiring a list of potential corporate training institutions, it is time to take a look at what these institutions can offer. Look at their courses and itineraries. Check the testimonials they have. If possible, look at some reviews about them. This is the best way you can learn what this school has to offer. Of course, if you see a lot of negative feedback and comments, its time to proceed to the next one on your list.
The next step is to try to contact the institution to learn more about them. Ask if they are accredited and certified.
A good corporate training institute can help transition from instructor-centered or lecture based training into something participant-centered and into a dynamic, multi-sensory learning experience.
You’ll know if you are in a great corporate training institute if you find that:
Learners were able to increase their ability to retain and recall information
Learners were able to improve their comprehension of the course materials and were able to remain focused as well as attentive all through the training program
Learners were able to quickly assimilate information which results to shortened training cycles
Learners were able to apply what theyve learned on the job after the training program
Learners who were previously resistant & difficult participants became constructive contributors and positive team players
Learners become more effective trainers who show that renewed motivation, confidence and enthusiasm for their profession
For the final step, you should consider everything youve checked about the corporate training instate and determine if it has everything that can fit the needs of company trainers.

Artificial limbs, which belong to the category of devices known as prostheses, have existed far longer than most realise. There have been accounts of limbs dating back to ancient times, for instance, and even particular specimens harking back to the age of the ancient Egyptians, discovered by archaeologists. Accidents and tragedies harming the body are not new to humanity, after all, so it only stands to reason that even the people of olden times constantly strove to find viable replacements for limbs that had been lost one way or another. As technology improved, so did these solutions, which leads us to the powerfully mechanised, rather ingeniously crafted artificial limbs of today. No doubt these shall eventually be succeeded by new versions as time brings about even more technological developments, but for the moment, one may yet pause at the brilliance that has already been achieved by these prostheses creators.
At present time, there are at least four primary categories used for classifying artificial limbs. The first category encompasses all transtibial prostheses, indicating prostheses that are made to replace losses of a leg below the kneeas suggested by the reference to the bone tibia. These are also quite often called BKs by those working in the prosthetics trade, and the acronym stands for below-the-knee, predictably enough. These are contrasted to the second primary category of artificial limbs, which deals with the transfemoral (AK or above the knee) prostheses. These usually require a little more advanced technology for better performance results, because transfemoral amputations are always considered more severe than transtibial ones.
Then there is the third category, that of the transradial prostheses Again, as suggested by the reference to the bone called the radius, one of the forearm bones, this deals with prostheses that replace arm losses below the elbow. The final category, the transhumeral prostheses (the reference now being to the humerus) replace losses of the arm above the elbow. The transradial prosthetics and transhumeral prosthetics are respectively referred to as BE (below-elbow) and AE (above-elbow) prosthetics.

Some might chalk it all up to Pirates of the Caribbean. Ever since the French cuff-wearing, eyeliner-sporting Jack Sparrow ran all over theatre screens everywhere, countless kids (and would-be-kids) have turned to pirate costumes for their Halloween gear, donning both French cuffs and eyeliners as well as the somewhat drunken demeanour Johnny Depp put on for the role. Even after the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, how many drunken pirates did you see walking the streets that Halloween? Still, there might be more the to the pirate costume craze than thismore even than Depps reminder that pirates, drunken demeanour notwithstanding, can still be quite cool.
Most childrens first encounters with pirates come not even through Depp but through Hook: the meat hook-handed, crocodile fearing antagonist of the Peter Pan tales provides a nice contrast to Jack Sparrows not entirely bad, weirdly fearless (in one way) character. Hook is not really the stuff of most childrens Halloween dreams, at least not the character most children would wish to play if they had to put on a character. Yet one cannot deny that there have always been children dressing up with his signature hook and old-world coat, spewing childish threats on our doorsteps and threatening to keel-haul us or force us to walk the plank if we do not give them the sweets they figure they deserveand ticking clocks no longer seem to frighten these mini-Hooks away. Is this merely a projection of what children think Hook should be like? Or is it simply that they are not playing Hook: that they are simply playing the anonymous, idealised pirate?
Perhaps the answer is just that. The character of the pirate has strong potential for a childs imagination, and also has the added benefit of being considered cool, what with its dashing trappings. The fascination with the pirate costume is not just about Depp or Hook or any other specific pirate: it is also the fascination with the sea, or with swords, or with ships and the like. What is conjured up for children with the pirate costume is a complete world associated with pirates, hence the popularity of pirates during Halloween time.

When both biological parents of a child dies or loses all rights and responsibilities of a child, a Stepparent may adopt the child. Once a stepparent adoption is finalized, it is permanent and is never reversed, except in rare cases of fraud, defect, mental illness, or disability.
Every state has different rules for stepparent adoption. While only a bay area adoption attorney knows the intricacies of the law, below are the rules for the state of California.
In CA, for a successful stepparent adoption, the following legal requirements have to be met:
1. The adopting parent must be married or have a registered domestic partnership.
2. The adopting parent’s spouse or domestic partner must be the child’s legal parent and must have a legal right to the custody of the child.
3. The adopting parent must be at least 18 years or older.
4. The adopting parent’s spouse or partner must consent to the adoption.
5. The child’s other biological parent must consent to the adoption. If the other parent is not traceable or refuses consent, you can still adopt the child with a court order saying that all appropriate measures were taken to contact them for consent.
6. If the child is 12 years or old, the child’s consent is needed.
If the requirements have been met, take the following steps for stepchild adoption:
1. Complete and file forms ADOPT-200, ADOPT-210, and ADOPT-215.
2. Work with social service organizations that will investigate the case.
3. Gather certified copies of a birth certificate & marriage certificate.
4. Gather certified copies of judgments of dissolution from prior marriages.
5. Gather custody papers for the child.
6. Gather death certificate of one of the biological parents, if any.
7. Gather military discharge papers, if any.
8. Get consent from the absent parent. If the absent parent refuses consent, you will have to follow a different strategy for adoption.
9. If the child is 12 or older, get the child’s consent. This is done by the social service organization.
10. File all the documents with the Family Relations Courthouse, and get a hearing date fixed.
11. Attend the hearing. Bring your child, and other people such as friends and relations.
12. When the court passes a judgment, get a new birth certificate. Ensure that all the details in the judgment are correct.
Adoption legal proceedings, especially for stepparent adoption, are very complex and require a dedicated stepparent adoption family law attorney, bay area adoption attorneys.

Over the years, homeowners have adored and favored the installation of shower enclosures in their bathrooms. Since it will remain a part of one of the most important rooms in your house for many years, you need to choose well. Consider it a valuable investment you can make for yourself and for your home.
When choosing a shower enclosure, you need to consider a few factors such as the following:
- Size
- Height
- Shape
- Quality
- Design/style
- Quality
- Cost
The size of your shower enclosure is very important. You need to know the exact measurement of your bathroom and where exactly do you want it positioned. If you have a large bathroom, there wont be any problems since your shower enclosure wont be taking up too much space. However, if you already have a small bathroom and you want a shower enclosure to still fit into it then you really need to ask yourself, your partner/family or an expert about the convenient choice.
For the height of the shower enclosure, again, you need the exact measurements. There are those who want their shower enclosure fully closed but there are those who prefer it only up to the height of the shower head. Check with your partner/family before you make any final decisions regarding the height.
There are different shapes for shower enclosures these days. These would be: rectangle, square, quadrant and oblong enclosures. Similar to choosing the size, you need to make sure that the shape of the shower enclosure you will pick wont make your bathroom look cramped up.
When it comes to the design, there are also lots to choose from. There are those that come with a tray and those that dont have one. Many prefer the ones with a tray since it is less likely to encounter shower leakage. Since the insides of the shower enclosure needs to be tiled and grouted, you should pick the tile you want and have them installed before getting a shower enclosure. There are also shower enclosures that are packaged complete with shower heads, water heaters and even a spa/sauna. Choose wisely.
Among all other factors, quality is the most important to consider. When inspecting the quality of your shower enclosure, make sure the company selling it has done an anti-corrosion salt test on its metal fittings. This ensures that the chrome platings wont chip or peel off. You also need to check the door rollers if they work and dont easily break. You should also check the door handles, fixings and if it has a good seal to prevent water leakage.
For the price, most shower enclosures are actually reasonably priced; however, not all retailers shoulder delivery. Before buying one, you need to ask if delivery is free, included in the price or you still need to pay for it. Also watch out for additional charges like VAT. These can significantly add to the final buying price.
